Cape Breton Launch Facility to be "Similar to Kodiak"

According to Dr. Chirinjeev Kathuria, Chairman of PlanetSpace, "The propsed site will be similar to the Kodiak Launch Facility." (PlanetSpace evaluating two launch sites, CB Post, 1 June 2007)

From Information retrieved from the KLF Information Group Web Page keep in mind that:

1. "The (KLF) facility was constructed entirely with government funds. Launch receipts have not covered operational costs, requiring continual government subsidies to keep the facility operating."

2. "Taxpayer funds continue to be the sole support of the KLC - taxpayer federal funds coupled with grants from the State of Alaska now total 50 MILLION DOLLARS just for construction!"

3. "The KLC is commonly referred to as "Space Pork Kodiak" here in Kodiak."

PlanetSpace Evaluating Sites in Cape Breton

In case you haven't heard, PlanetSpace is looking at two sites in Cape Breton for a launch facilty. Apparently, according to a recent front page article in the Cape Breton Post, June 1, 2007, the "project is on schedule."

Over the past year, there have been sporatic articles about PlanetSpace selecting Alder Point as a proposed launch site. If you don't know where Alder Point is, it is a small picturesque fishing village along the St. Andrew's Channel on Cape Breton Island (Eastern Canada).

Comparing Cape Breton's launch site to the Kodiak Alaska Launch Facility, PlanetSpace are promising jobs and a positive economic spinoff for the region. Our province has given 300 acres of crown land to PlanetSpace for this project (www.planetspace.org) without consulting residents around the proposed launch areas.

Consider the noise, launch pollutants, and effects launches will have on wildlife, marine life, and the quality of human life. As a resident of Alder Point, I have questions and concerns. We need more information from our Government and PlanetSpace before making an educated decision.
